If you’re an outdoor sports enthusiast, you may be thinking about how to protect your eyes so that you can continue to enjoy outdoor sports safely. Today we tell you how to choose the right sports eyewear for you and your activity.
Sports glasses not only protect your eyes from external factors such as pollen, stones, dust… or any other external agent that may come into contact with your eyes, but they also protect you from the wind. And if you are a person who needs prescription glasses for your everyday life, you should know that prescription sports glasses are also an ideal option for you. The most important thing you can do to find out if prescription glasses are right for you is to make an appointment for an eye test.
The most important thing to remember when choosing sports eyewear is to think carefully about the sport for which you want to use it, as the design and ergonomics will vary greatly from situation to situation.
Here we go!
Find out which type of sports eyewear is best for you, depending on the sport you do.
Glasses for tennis and padel
Two sports that can be practised practically all year round in Mallorca. What do you need in your glasses to play tennis or paddle tennis? The most important thing for us is that they fit well and that they are lightweight. These are sports where speed of movement is essential and you need sports glasses that can keep up with the movements you make with your whole body. They must fit and not fall off during the game. Their resistance should also be important, because sometimes you can be hit by an unintentional ball.
Cycling glasses
In this case, cycling is one of the most popular sports in Mallorca. In this case, we recommend that you do so:
- The sports glasses you choose should fit your helmet. Safety is paramount and it is essential that they fit the helmet you will be wearing.
- They should be light and snug to your face. It is important that they do not fall off your face and that they fit perfectly.
- Make sure they are made of impact-resistant material, otherwise they could shatter and injure you.
Running Glasses
In this case, if you are looking for sports glasses for running, we recommend that you choose the same ones you would for cycling… without the helmet, of course. But remember that they must be light and resistant to knocks and scratches.
Most sports glasses can be prescription if you wish. However, if you don’t want to wear prescription glasses at the moment, contact lenses are a very good option.
Contact lenses, a very interesting alternative
Contact lenses are sometimes underestimated and can be an ideal solution if you need prescription glasses. You’ll be glad to know that when it comes to water sports such as sailing, swimming or diving, contact lenses combined with your favourite sports glasses are an ideal option. You can get the comfort you need without worrying about your prescription.

A route to enjoy your new sports glasses
Now we would like to introduce you to a charming route in Santa Maria. It is perfect for hiking or to enjoy with the family during the day. Coanegra, a magical stream where it is essential to wear your new sports sunglasses.
The Coanegra route starts in Santa Maria del Camí, next to the optician’s. We recommend that you pick up your sports glasses here before embarking on your route.
Take the last road to Consell and turn left, heading north. This is a tarmac road that crosses the railway line and passes next to the Hortus nursery for the first few metres. In a few minutes you will see a park and a skate park on your left and you will come to a fork in the road. Go straight on, following the signs for Camí de Coanegra. Continue along the tarmac road for about seven minutes, leaving the Camí de na Cili on your left. Soon you will see the Son Torrella farmhouse, known in the Muslim era as the Adbach farmhouse, on your left. The houses of Son Torrella are among the most representative in Santa Maria. They have a wide façade, a central tower and an original clastra.
At Son Torrella, turn left onto a road signposted as a dead end for vehicles. You will have to park there as the road has recently been closed to vehicles.
